Leadership: as boomers retire, will millennials lead?

By William Seidman I went to The Conference Board’s Annual Meeting in NYC last week for a conference on Leadership Development. A big theme was the role of demographics in leadership. It’s inevitable that many boomers will begin retiring soon, creating a gap in leadership. The next group to lead? The millennials, also known as “Gen Y,” who  many people think are the true future leaders. But millennials seem to be motivated by very different work standards, and as a group they’ve faced some of the worst unemployment, worldwide, in generations. Best case scenario is that boomers, who have experience and wisdom,  will stay in the work force longer than expected and the millennials will mature into something closer to current leadership roles. However, I do think the millennials will be less tolerant of corporate indecision. It will be interesting to watch.]]>
