\t\t\t\tBy William Seidman<\/strong>\n\nWe recently had an article accepted for publication\u00a0by the OD Practitioner<\/a>, the journal of the\u00a0Organization Development Network.\n\nOur\u00a0subject is\u00a0“Transformational Leadership in a Transactional World.”\n\nI’ve been talking, and blogging, about this for a while since it’s a topic I care a lot about.\n\nOrganizations are increasingly being driven\u00a0to focus on the narrowest transactional management<\/strong>.\n\nAt the same time, there are increasing pressures on organizations to change in important and core ways.\n\nThese two pressures \u2013 transactional and transformational — are in conflict: the more transactional — day to day — \u00a0pressure, the less able organizations are to change. You can’t redesign the roof when you’re busy bailing out the rainwater.<\/strong>\n\nHowever, the evidence from various sources shows that leading transformationally\u00a0— redesigning the roof — \u00a0produces transactional excellence. If the roof is good, it won’t leak.<\/strong>\n\nBut this does not work equally well in both directions: transactional excellence (efficiency with your buckets)\u00a0doesn\u2019t get you transformation — that redesigned roof.\n\nFocus\u00a0first on the\u00a0transformational, and the transactional will follow.]]>\t\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
